“Life is not happening to you. Life is responding to you.”

“Life is not happening to you. Life is responding to you.”

It’s easy to read this quote and dismiss it. Because of course, there are many things in life that are beyond our control – events, both good and bad, that happen whether we asked for them to cross our path or not. But when I read the second half of that quote again and truly let it sink in, it sparks me to take more responsibility for the decisions I make and the reactions I choose. Life can throw us some serious curve balls that we don’t ask for. None of us can escape that. But we have a choice in how we react. We have a choice in what we do next.

This is where my yoga practice has been so impactful in helping me navigate life. Yoga gives me a chance to slow down and meditate on what I want and who I am. It teaches me to be less reactive and more thoughtful. There is proven research that demonstrates that a regular yoga practice helps to decrease stress and anxiety. And in my opinion, it doesn’t take a regular practice to feel these effects. I feel it in just one simple class. Even if it wasn’t my “best” or most favorite practice, I walk out of each class – without fail – feeling better than when I walked in.

And when I walk out of class feeling better, I come home in a better mood. I treat the people in my life with more care. I take care of myself more thoughtfully. I make better choices for my health throughout that day. I sleep better. And in return “life responds to me” better…because I choose to respond with more intention and care.

It all starts with one class. Let’s find out together. The Sparks Team is here and ready for you to come try it out.

Grateful for you,

Megan
